about

Because why not? Third Eye Blind, empty boasting, alcohol, douchetastic tendencies, and, of course, a healthy sheen of insecurity - I think the combination makes for one of the most fun songs I've written in a while.

Call it a genre exercise, call it an awkward experiment, call it shameless bait for the frat-rap blogs, but don't call it selling it out. More like putting something on Ebay and having no one meet your reserve price. Or something. Party on, Garth.

Oh, and props to Elite Gymnastics for the song title, and for a fantastic mix yesterday. You guys are pretty good.

lyrics

Grant's back, gonna take a stab at frat rap?
I never went Greek and I'm not much of a man's man
Was reading Faerie Queene when you all were doing keg stands
But then I did keg stands, so I guess that it makes sense then
And I get that my aesthetic's a little angsty and arty
And depressing, but I'd still like to get played at your parties
Meet a girl, get some play at your party
She says you a freshman? You pledging? Hardly
Girl, my game's as smooth as my face, I'm just starting
Guess who wrote this song? Hold on, and I'm gonna get my car keys
Let's set it off, pouring rockstar in sparks
Don't stop the pour till it glows in the dark
Bar was Nikki Sixx, I'ma kick-start its heart
Then fuck it, send it back into cardiac shock
Damn right, if this is gonna be a frat night
Then I'm gonna have a fucking Tucker Max night
Cause if douchebag's where my crew's at then I'm gonna be a douchebag and I'm gonna do that right
Speeding lane, I'm ready for the fast life
Need a Phoebe Cates, I wanna see some fast times
Eighth grade, keeping score, yeah that's right
Run around the bases national pasttime
Fuck all night, man I could go all day
No lie, no lime, pound a can of Tecate
Normally low-key and you know I hate to name drop
But I know the DJ, gonna play some K-pop
You got pretty eyes and a cute smile, but your face is gonna melt just wait for the bass drop
And i can't stop, I mean I won't, the bar's not closed so it's not time to go
Put on cash cash, take it to the floor, Put 'em back, DGAF, all I want is more, go!

Normally I'm not one for the Xbox and ballcaps
But recently a buddy brought me up to his old frat
walk into the party, bad motherfucker
swagging like bieber, scheming like usher
laid back like heems, but it doesn't pass muster
Dudes on the couch chilling out to guster
Bros in the back in their khakis and flip-flops
Wanna play flip-cup, dude, turn that shit up
Then play some Travie, then some Trace Adkins
Not my jam, but i'ma put my Giants cap backwards
Ruit with natty? Damn, I'ma smash it
Frat it up, like Grant's the lax team captain
Dominate the table, head straight to the couch
Gotta get trashed, get oscar the grouch
Cute undergrad comes and sits down
What you doing now? How long you in town?
See that dude Chad? He's the one who brought her out
Corona shirt, cargo shorts, doesn't stand a chance now
I ooze confidence and the smell of whiskey
We're both pretty drunk but we say we're tipsy
We know what we mean, she leans in to kiss me
In the morning, you know she's gonna miss me
Call all her friends to see if they saw me
Find my last name out, Facebook stalk me
send me a message suggesting coffee
Check back obsessively, hoping response please
Yeah, but maybe I've moved on, but now that i'm sober, probably not
I fall in love with every girl I talk to, so if I call you, it's all 'cause I got to
now we're talking, it's been about a week
First she was stalking, now it's more me
I don't even have a job, she's still in school
She still has friends, she seems more cool
She calls up Chad, like "that guy was a tool
Plus he keeps talking about 2ne1. Who the fuck is that?"
So I mope halfway to the weekend
Same friend calls, says we're going to the Marina
Go back, and do the same exact thing
And that's how I rock the frat scene - badly
